Sailor Reimagined: A Deep Dive into the 2002 Shipwreck G.I. Joe Figure & V3 Cobra B.A.T.

Story By Mitchell Smith
Welcome to The Outpost. Today I’m taking a look at a 2002 G.I. Joe figure that was really cool and is a pretty cool version of one of my all time favorite characters Shipwreck. This is an interesting figure and the 5th version of Shipwreck. He didn’t come with a lot of gear, but he was packaged with a new style V3 Cobra B.A.T. This was a cool new version that reinvented the B.A.T. One thing I love about this Shipwreck is the textured shirt and hat.
This really gave life to this figure and made him pop. I think this gave inspiration to the 2012 Dollar General Shipwreck figure which has the textured outfit that really brought that figure to life as well. I bought a bunch of those and made custom figures. Those were the days. His weapons are a bit odd to me so I gave him Windmills revolver and thought it looked great as his hands and arms are pretty bulky. Hasbro also produced a 12 inch version of this Shipwreck and the B.A.T. that are really cool and I’m happy I have those 2 figures.
Over all this is a really cool version of Shippy and the mold was used for versions 6 & 7 and all 3 look really great. Who had this version back in 2002? Make sure to check back next week for the next discussion at The Outpost.
